CILIFO celebra una mesa redonda sobre residuos forestales en el marco de la European Week for Waste Reduction #EWWR2020

28.10.2020. La Semana Europea de la Reducción de Residuos – European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) en inglés – es la mayor campaña para concienciar sobre la prevención de residuos en Europa. El Centro Ibérico para la Investigación y Lucha contra Incendios Forestales (CILIFO) estará presente en esta semana a través de la Fundación Finnova, una de las entidades que conforman el consorcio del Proyecto CILIFO.

El próximo lunes, 24 de noviembre de 2020, CILIFO participará oficialmente como “desarrollador de acciones” en la Semana Europea de la Reducción de Residuos a través de un webinario sobre la gestión de los residuos forestales.

La Fundación Finnova forma parte del partenariado público-privado que conforma el Proyecto CILIFO, financiado en un 75 % por el Programa de Cooperación Transfronteriza Interreg VA España – Portugal – POCTEP (2014-2020). CILIFO actúa para reforzar y aunar la cooperación, los procedimientos de trabajo y la formación entre los dispositivos de Prevención y Extinción de Incendios Forestales en el área de cooperación de la Eurorregión Alentejo – Algarve – Andalucía y está liderado por la Junta de Andalucía.

En el marco del proyecto CILIFO, financiado por los fondos FEDER a través del Programa de Cooperación Transfronteriza Interreg VA España-Portugal POCTEP (2014-2020), la Fundación Finnova, entidad beneficiaria del proyecto, propone una mesa redonda para analizar los retos que suponen los residuos y la innovación vinculada a la economía circular en el sector de los residuos forestales, como un medio para valorizar la economía local y evitar los incendios forestales.

El proyecto CILIFO contribuye a la adaptación y mitigación del cambio climático. Es por ello que CILIFO trabaja en una buena gestión de los residuos forestales y su valorización que ayuden a buscar soluciones innovadoras que fomenten la adaptación y mitigación del cambio climático. En la jornada se hablará del Green Deal y se celebrará la ceremonia de entrega de premios de los 2nd Edition CILIFO – Firefighting StartUp Europe Awards 2020 (SEUA-CILIFO).

Se plantea que el evento se celebre en el Comité Europeo de las Regiones, en Bruselas, puesto que el año pasado se celebró allí una acción similar en el marco de la EWWR. Este año (2020) se quiere también celebrar allí la acción, pero en caso de no haber salas disponibles o que la evolución del COVID-19 no sea favorable, se hará un evento online. Los idiomas oficiales del evento son español, portugués e inglés.

La Semana Europea para la Reducción de Residuos (EWWR) nació en 2009 como un proyecto europeo financiado por el programa LIFE+ de la Comisión Europea que promueve la implementación de acciones de sensibilización sobre los recursos sostenibles y la gestión de residuos. La EWWR se celebra cada año desde 2009 durante la última semana de noviembre. Voluntarios de toda Europa, y también de fuera, organizan miles de acciones relacionadas con las 3 R (Reducir, Reutilizar y Reciclar), así como actividades de limpieza o Clean-up days.

En el contexto europeo actual, la Semana Europea de la Reducción de Residuos tiene un papel decisivo: ayudar a la Unión Europea a alcanzar sus objetivos de prevención de residuos. Para las autoridades nacionales, regionales o locales, las actividades de sensibilización son una parte integral de sus planes de gestión de residuos. Un aspecto importante al que se enfrentan las autoridades públicas es la falta de sensibilización de la población en relación con la prevención de residuos y la enorme influencia que ello supone en los patrones de producción y consumo insostenibles de los ciudadanos, así como en sus conductas ambientales en relación con la generación de residuos y la separación en origen. Así pues, una comunicación eficaz es un elemento clave para abordar el problema de los residuos.

Sobre la 2ª Edición de los CILIFO – Firefighting Startup Europe Awards (SEUA – CILIFO) 2020

 StartUp Europe Awards (SEUA) es una iniciativa promovida por la Comisión Europea, apoyada por el Comité de las Regiones y el Parlamento Europeo; e implementada por la Fundación Finnova en colaboración con StartUp Europe. SEUA son una herramienta de innovación abierta que permite a las empresas identificar nuevas start-ups con talento, que sean capaces de resolver los desafíos actuales en múltiples áreas. Se trata de combinar su conocimiento interno con el externo para sacar adelante los proyectos de estrategia y de I+D. Bajo el modelo de innovación abierta, los proyectos pueden originarse tanto dentro como fuera de la empresa; pueden incorporarse tanto al principio, como en las fases intermedias del proceso de innovación; y pueden alcanzar el mercado a través de la misma compañía o a través de otras empresas.

En este sentido, los “Firefighting StartUp Europe Awards” son una iniciativa promovida por la Comisión Europea, implementada por la Fundación Finnova en colaboración con StartUp Europe y apoyada por el marco del proyecto CILIFO. Se trata de una herramienta de innovación abierta para identificar start-ups innovadoras con potencial, capaces de resolver los retos actuales en el área de la gestión de incendios forestales. El objetivo es localizar a aquellas que ofrecen productos, servicios o metodologías que abordan las tres fases en la lucha contra incendios 1) Prevención 2) Actuación 3) Regeneración. Deben aportar una mejora de la eficiencia de los recursos en la actuación contra incendios; herramientas tecnológicas; sensibilización social; comportamiento del fuego; patrones espaciales y temporales del fuego; meteorología de incendios y clasificación de peligro de incendios; técnicas de extinción de incendios; detección terrestre, aérea y espacial; restauración; etc.

Firefighting StartUp Europe Awards / SEUA – CILIFO es una actuación destinada a impulsar la innovación abierta para la adaptación y mitigación del cambio climático; el establecimiento del “networking”; el intercambio de buenas

prácticas; la captación de emprendedores, empresas y tecnologías que ayuden a prevención y extinción de los incendios forestales; y la restauración de los espacios naturales que hayan sufrido incendios forestales. SEUA-CILIFO es una herramienta para identificar y apoyar a emprendedores con nuevas ideas en el campo de la lucha contra incendios.

Destinatarios: emprendedores y start-ups con ideas/proyectos relativas a la lucha contra los incendios forestales en las 3 áreas de acción enmarcadas en el proyecto CILIFO: Prevención, Acción y Regeneración.

El proyecto “Centro Ibérico para la Investigación y Lucha contra Incendios Forestales” (CILIFO) se centra en la lucha contra los incendios forestales y sus consecuencias para la adaptación y mitigación del cambio climático; en un marco de cooperación transfronteriza para la prevención de riesgos y la mejora de la gestión de los recursos naturales de España y Portugal en la zona de la Eurorregión Alentejo – Algarve – Andalucía. CILIFO se enmarca en el Objetivo Temático 5 del Programa POCTEP: Promover la adaptación al cambio climático en todos los sectores; y responde a la prioridad de inversión, respecto al Programa POCTEP, 5B: Fomento de la inversión para abordar los riesgos específicos y la garantía de adaptación frente a las catástrofes y desarrollo de sistemas de gestión de catástrofes.

Con una duración de tres años (2019 a 2021), persigue, a través de los resultados previstos en sus actividades, constituirse como un Centro permanente para el impulso y desarrollo de la formación, la sensibilización, el desarrollo y la innovación, y la cooperación interregional en la lucha contra incendios forestales. CILIFO se está desarrollando gracias a la colaboración de un partenariado público-privado, liderado por la Junta de Andalucía y compuesto por organismos públicos de investigación, entidades de interés público sin ánimo de lucro, y administraciones públicas; y todos con el objetivo común sobre la lucha contra los incendios forestales.

Retos en común – Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS)

El objetivo es afrontar el reto 13 y 15 de los ODS de Naciones Unidas para innovar en la adopción de medidas urgentes para combatir el cambio climático y sus efectos, así como proteger, restablecer y promover el uso sostenible de los ecosistemas terrestres, gestionar sosteniblemente los bosques, luchar contra la desertificación, detener e invertir la degradación de las tierras y detener la pérdida de biodiversidad.

CILIFO holds a round table on forest waste as part of the European Week for Waste Reduction #EWWR2020

28.10.2020. The European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) is the largest campaign to raise awareness about waste prevention in Europe. The Iberian Centre for Research and the Fight against Forest Fires (CILIFO) will be present at this week’s event through the Finnova Foundation, one of the entities that make up the CILIFO Project consortium.

Next Monday, 23rd November 2020, CILIFO will officially participate as an “action developer” in the European Week for Waste Reduction through a webinar on forest waste management.

The Finnova Foundation is part of the public-private partnership that makes up the CILIFO project, 75% of which is financed by the Interreg VA Spain – Portugal – POCTEP (2014-2020) cross-border cooperation programme. CILIFO acts to strengthen and unite cooperation, working procedures and training between the Forest Fire Prevention and Extinction mechanisms in the cooperation area of the Euroregion Alentejo – Algarve – Andalusia and is led by the Andalusian Regional Government.

Within the framework of the CILIFO project, financed by ERDF funds through the Interreg VA Spain-Portugal POCTEP (2014-2020) cross-border cooperation programme, the Finnova Foundation, the project beneficiary, proposes a round table to analyse the challenges posed by waste and innovation linked to the circular economy in the forest waste sector, as a means of enhancing the local economy and preventing forest fires.

The CILIFO project contributes to the adaptation and mitigation of climate change. Therefore CILIFO is working on good management of forest waste and its valorisation to help find innovative solutions to promote adaptation and mitigation of climate change. During the conference, the Green Deal will be discussed and the award ceremony for the 2nd Edition CILIFO – Firefighting StartUp Europe Awards 2020 (SEUA-CILIFO) will be held.

The event is planned to take place at the European Committee of the Regions in Brussels, as a similar action was held there last year in the framework of the EWWR. This year (2020) the action is also to be held there, but if there are no rooms available or if the development of COVID-19 is not favourable, an online event will be held. The official languages of the event are Spanish, Portuguese and English.

The European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) was born in 2009 as a European project funded by the European Commission’s LIFE+ programme that promotes the implementation of awareness raising actions on sustainable resources and waste management. The EWWR is held every year since 2009 during the last week of November. Volunteers from all over Europe, and also from outside, organize thousands of actions related to the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle), as well as cleaning activities or Clean-up days.

In today’s European context, the European Week for Waste Reduction has a crucial role to play: helping the European Union to achieve its waste prevention goals. For national, regional or local authorities, awareness-raising activities are an integral part of their waste management plans. An important aspect faced by public authorities is the lack of public awareness of waste prevention and the enormous influence this has on citizens’ unsustainable production and consumption patterns, as well as on their environmental behaviour in relation to waste generation and separation at source. Effective communication is therefore a key element in addressing the waste issue.

The StartUp Europe Awards (SEUA) is an initiative promoted by the European Commission, supported by the Committee of the Regions and the European Parliament; and implemented by the Finnova Foundation in collaboration with StartUp Europe. SEUA is an open innovation tool that allows companies to identify new talented start-ups, which are able to solve current challenges in multiple areas. The aim is to combine their internal and external knowledge to carry out strategy and R&D projects. Under the open innovation model, projects can originate both inside and outside the company; they can be incorporated both at the beginning and in the intermediate phases of the innovation process; and they can reach the market through the same company or through other companies.

In this sense, the “Firefighting StartUp Europe Awards” are an initiative promoted by the European Commission, implemented by the Finnova Foundation in collaboration with StartUp Europe and supported by the framework of the CILIFO project. It is an open innovation tool to identify innovative start-ups with potential, capable of solving current challenges around forest fire management. The objective is to locate those that offer products, services or methodologies that address the three phases in firefighting 1) Prevention 2) Action 3) Regeneration. They must provide an improvement in the efficiency of resources in firefighting; technological tools; social awareness; fire behaviour; spatial and temporal patterns of fire; fire meteorology and fire danger classification; fire extinguishing techniques; terrestrial, aerial and spatial detection; restoration; etc.

Firefighting StartUp Europe Awards / SEUA – CILIFO is an action aimed at promoting open innovation for the adaptation and mitigation of climate change; the establishment of networking; the exchange of good practices; the recruitment of entrepreneurs, companies and technologies that help to prevent and extinguish forest fires; and the restoration of natural areas that have suffered from forest fires. SEUA-CILIFO is a tool for identifying and supporting entrepreneurs with new ideas in the field of firefighting.

Target group: entrepreneurs and start-ups with ideas/projects relating to the fight against forest fires in the 3 action areas of the CILIFO project: Prevention, Action and Regeneration.

The project “Iberian Centre for Research and Fight against Forest Fires” (CILIFO) focuses on the fight against forest fires and their consequences for the adaptation and mitigation of climate change; within a framework of cross-border cooperation for the prevention of risks and the improvement of the management of natural resources in Spain and Portugal in the area of the Euroregion Alentejo – Algarve – Andalusia. CILIFO falls under Thematic Objective 5 of the POCTEP Programme: Promoting adaptation to climate change in all sectors; and responds to the investment priority, with respect to the POCTEP Programme, 5B: Promoting investment to address specific risks and ensuring adaptation to disasters and development of disaster management systems.

With a duration of three years (2019 to 2021), it aims, through the results of its activities, to establish itself as a permanent centre for the promotion and development of training, awareness, development and innovation, and inter-regional cooperation in the fight against forest fires. CILIFO is being developed thanks to the collaboration of a public-private partnership, led by the Andalusian Regional Government and made up of public research bodies, non-profit-making public interest entities and public administrations, all with the common objective of fighting forest fires.

The aim is to meet the challenge 13 and 15 of the UN SPOs to innovate in taking urgent action to combat climate change and its effects, as well as to protect, restore and promote the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.
